01 · The invitation
Work the journal is looking for
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year. The journal reads prevention research wherever it is produced, and assesses each manuscript against the standards of the discipline that produced it.
That includes work on the organisms and reservoirs that make infection possible; on surveillance, screening and outbreak investigation; on the measures placed between a source and a susceptible person, from hand hygiene and decontamination to device design, water safety and vector control; on immunization, prophylaxis and stewardship; and on the programs, economics and policy that keep prevention in place.
It also includes the work that makes those things measurable — case definitions, diagnostic and sampling methods, analytic approaches — and the implementation research that explains why a measure that worked in one service does not transfer unchanged to another.
Submissions are welcome from any country and any resource setting, and from laboratory, clinical, environmental, veterinary, occupational, behavioral, economic and health-systems research alike. Neither the setting a study was done in nor the discipline it came from affects its eligibility.
02 · Fit
What makes a manuscript a fit
A manuscript fits when preventing infection, or understanding something that prevention depends on, is among the questions it actually investigates. The full statement, with the forms that connection can take, is on the aims and scope page.
The journal asks for evidence appropriate to the design a study uses, rather than a single threshold applied to everything. A descriptive report is read as a description, an association as an association, and an effectiveness claim against evidence that an effect was measured. Authors who are uncertain whether a subject fits are welcome to send a title and abstract to the editorial office before preparing a full submission; the address is given with the submission routes below.
03 · Terms
What authors should know before submitting
- Review
- All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review, where they are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
- Decisions
- Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Those decisions are reached independently of fees, memberships, optional services, and editorial or reviewing roles.
- Charges
- There is no submission charge. An article processing charge is invoiced only after acceptance and takes no part in the editorial decision; the amounts and the withdrawal terms are on the article processing charges page.
- Preparation
- Manuscript structure, reporting guidelines, reference style and the declarations required at submission are set out in the instructions for authors.
