Scope boundary
What the journal does not consider
A manuscript outside these boundaries may be declined without external review.
- Clinical case reports and case series Individual patient diagnosis, treatment outcome and clinical management sit outside a population health focus.
- Diagnostic method development Laboratory technique, diagnostic accuracy and biomarker discovery without a population health application.
- Basic science and molecular research Cellular, molecular or animal-model work without a defined population-health, epidemiological, One Health or disease-surveillance question.
- Opinion without data Commentaries, editorials and perspectives lacking empirical evidence or systematic analysis are rarely considered.
The journal also does not consider individual patient care, clinical treatment protocols, diagnostic procedures or therapeutic interventions.

- Selects and invites the independent peer reviewers
- Upholds the journal’s publication ethics, aligned with COPE guidance
- Declares conflicts of interest and recuses itself from any manuscript where objectivity could be compromised
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific merit, methodological validity and research integrity. Fees, services and journal roles do not influence review or acceptance.
Every board member is listed with their affiliation and country on the editorial board page. The journal’s policies align with COPE guidance and are set out in full in its editorial policies.
How a manuscript is handled
From submission to version of record
Peer review is single-blind (double-blind on request). Each manuscript is assessed by at least two independent specialists in the relevant area of global health.
- 1Initial assessment The editorial office verifies scope alignment, formatting compliance and overall scientific quality.
- 2Similarity screening Every submission is screened with iThenticate. Self-plagiarism is also monitored.
- 3Independent peer review At least two specialists assess validity, rigour and clarity, and report to the handling editor.
- 4Decision and revision The decision is made on the reviews and the manuscript. Authors may appeal to the editorial office within 30 days, providing justification and any additional evidence.
- 5Publication Accepted articles are published open access under CC BY 4.0 with a registered Crossref DOI.
- 6Correction after publication Errors are addressed by erratum, corrigendum or correction notice; demonstrated misconduct by retraction, following COPE guidance.

What it costs and what you keep
Every article is free to read on publication. Authors retain copyright and the journal charges no subscription.
Open-access terms
Articles are published under CC BY 4.0. Authors retain copyright, and each published article receives a Crossref DOI.
Charges and withdrawal
The standard APC is USD 1,800 and is invoiced only after acceptance. Manuscripts withdrawn within 3 days of submission are not subject to a withdrawal charge. Manuscripts withdrawn more than 3 days after submission incur a withdrawal charge equal to 30% of the journal’s APC. Authors must receive official withdrawal confirmation before submitting the manuscript to another journal.
