Three ways in, one editorial office
Choose whichever route suits you; all three reach the same editorial office at the Journal of Evolutionary Science and lead to the same process. Nothing about the route you pick affects how your manuscript is assessed.

The routes
- Primary route
- ManuscriptZone — the submission system. Create an account, upload the files and track the manuscript through review.
- Alternative route
- The manuscript submission form — a single web form that opens with Journal of Evolutionary Science already selected. Useful when you would rather not set up an account.
- Assisted route
- The editorial office, at [email protected] — if a file will not upload, or you would rather send the manuscript and have the office enter it for you.
Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.
Before you start
A checklist of what the submission will ask for, so you can gather it once rather than in pieces.
- The manuscript — structured as set out in the instructions for authors, with the section limits given there. Tables and figures at the end, each on its own page.
- A title page — full names, affiliations and contact details for every author, with the corresponding author identified.
- A cover letter — disclosing any prior publication of an abstract from the work, related manuscripts from the same project, and any conflict of interest.
- A data-availability statement — Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement. Have accession numbers or repository links ready.
- Ethics, permits and registration — approvals, collection permits, specimen vouchers, and for an interventional clinical trial the registry name, registration number and registration date.
- Supplementary files — clearly labeled and referred to in the text. The manuscript itself must be complete and stand alone.
If you want double-blind review
Say so at submission, and prepare the reviewer file without author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, funding details or institution names. Full instructions are in the instructions for authors.

What happens next
- AcknowledgmentThe editorial office confirms receipt and gives the manuscript an identifier. Quote it in any correspondence about the submission.
- ScreeningAll submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
- Peer reviewManuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
- DecisionEditorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. You receive the reasons together with the decision.
- ProductionOn acceptance the article processing charge is invoiced, and copyediting, author proofs and DOI registration follow before open-access publication.
How your submission is handled

A submitted manuscript is confidential to the editors and reviewers handling it until publication.
Personal data
Handled under the publisher privacy statement.
Independence
Decisions are independent of fees, services, memberships, and editorial roles.
Withdrawing
The terms are on the charges page; wait for written confirmation before sending the work elsewhere.
