Accountability
How the board is bound
These are the conditions under which the people above make decisions. The full text of each is on the editorial policies page.
Review and decision
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by two to three independent subject-matter experts.
Decision criteria
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Competing interests and recusal
Editors recuse themselves from decisions on their own submissions, which are handled independently. The same applies where an editor has a competing interest in a manuscript, whether personal, professional or financial.
Independence
Editorial decisions remain independent of fees, memberships, optional services, and editorial or reviewer roles. Editors provide scholarly stewardship by overseeing peer review and upholding publication ethics; an editorial role confers no advantage in the review of that editor’s own work.
Working with the journal
Editors and reviewers
Researchers and clinicians working in family medicine and its neighboring fields are welcome to make themselves known to the editorial office, whether to review or to discuss editorial work. Appointments are made by the journal; a role carries scholarly responsibility and no publishing advantage.
The editorial office can be reached at [email protected].
