Article Processing Charges
Transparent, competitive pricing supporting open access enzyme research publication.
Invest in Enzyme Research Visibility
The Journal of Enzymes operates on an open access model where article processing charges (APCs) replace traditional subscription fees. This ensures your enzyme discoveries are freely accessible to biochemists, biotechnologists, and researchers worldwide.
Our APC structure is designed to be transparent and competitive, with multiple pathways to reduce or waive fees for researchers facing financial constraints.
Original Research
Full-length research articles, mechanistic studies, and comprehensive enzyme characterization advancing enzymology.
Standard Articles
Enzyme kinetics studies, protein engineering reports, and focused biocatalysis investigations.
Letters & Notes
Research letters, technical notes, and preliminary enzyme findings requiring rapid dissemination.
Rigorous Peer Review
Expert evaluation by enzymologists ensuring methodological rigor and scientific validity of your catalysis research.
Professional Production
Copyediting, typesetting, XML generation, and formatting to international publishing standards.
Global Distribution
Immediate open access publication with metadata distribution to major indexing services and databases.
Permanent Archiving
Long-term digital preservation ensuring your enzyme research remains accessible for future generations.
LMIC Waivers: Researchers from low and middle-income countries may qualify for partial or complete APC waivers. JEN is committed to ensuring economic barriers do not prevent important enzyme research from reaching the global biochemistry community.
| Program | Discount | Eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| JEN Membership | 15-30% | Active individual or institutional members |
| LMIC Waiver | 50-100% | Corresponding authors from qualifying countries |
| Editorial Contributors | 25% | Active reviewers and editorial board members |
| Institutional Agreements | 20-35% | Partner universities and research institutions |
APCs are invoiced upon manuscript acceptance, after successful peer review. Authors receive detailed invoices with multiple payment options including credit card, wire transfer, and institutional purchase orders. Payment is typically expected within 30 days of invoice, though extensions are available upon request.
Manuscripts are not published until payment is received or a waiver is approved. Authors experiencing financial difficulties should contact our editorial office before acceptance to discuss available options.
ManuscriptZone Portal
Submit through oap.manuscriptzone.net for comprehensive tracking and streamlined payment processing upon acceptance.
Simple Submission Form
Use our direct submission form for rapid manuscript upload. Payment details collected after acceptance.
Many universities and research institutions maintain open access publication funds to support researcher APCs. We recommend authors check with their institutional library about available support programs. JEN provides documentation required for institutional funding applications upon request.
JEN does not charge submission fees, and APCs are only invoiced after peer review acceptance. In exceptional circumstances where authors withdraw accepted manuscripts before publication, partial refunds may be considered based on production stage. Once published online, APCs are non-refundable.
When is the APC charged? APCs are invoiced only after your manuscript has passed peer review and been accepted. There are no submission or review fees.
Can my institution pay? Yes, most research institutions have mechanisms for paying open access APCs. We provide formal invoices suitable for institutional processing.
Are there hidden fees? No. The quoted APC covers all standard publication services including color figures and supplementary materials.
All APCs are quoted in US dollars. We accept major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Wire transfer options are available for institutional payments with detailed banking information provided on formal invoices. Institutional purchase orders are accepted from universities and research organizations.
Biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies publishing enzyme research are welcome. Corporate authors may arrange direct billing through our partnerships team. Volume publishing arrangements with reduced per-article rates are available for companies with ongoing enzyme research publication needs.
Extended datasets, additional kinetic analyses, structural coordinates, and multimedia files are published as supplementary materials at no additional charge. These materials receive DOIs for independent citation and permanent archiving alongside the main article.
Published articles receive ongoing support including metadata updates, DOI maintenance, and inclusion in promotional campaigns highlighting enzyme research. Authors may request usage statistics and altmetrics data showing article engagement across scientific and social platforms.
Beyond core publication services, authors may access optional language editing and figure preparation assistance. These services are available at additional cost and can improve manuscript quality before peer review. Contact our office for service details and pricing information.
