Biography
Dr. Mariana Hinzmann is a Researcher at CIIMAR in Matosinhos, Porto, Portugal, where her work focuses on phytoplankton, microscopy (including SEM and TEM), and the ecology and immunology of freshwater bivalves, particularly freshwater mussels. She completed her education at the University of Porto and the University of Aveiro. Her research encompasses diverse aspects of freshwater mussel biology, including haemocyte characterization, biomineralization processes, reproductive strategies, feeding ecology, and physiological responses to environmental stressors in species such as Anodonta cygnea, Anodonta anatina, Unio pictorum, and Margaritifera margaritifera. Her most-cited publication, "A review of properties, nutritional and pharmaceutical applications of Moringa oleifera: integrative approach on conventional and traditional Asian medicine" (2020), has received 120 citations, reflecting her interdisciplinary contributions to both aquatic ecology and applied biological research.
